Sharp Fickian Behavior of Electrogenerated Chemiluminescence Waves in Conjugated Polymer Films

چکیده

One technique to study electrochemical oxidation phenomena in thin polymer films is the generation of electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) waves. Such waves are sharp and easy to image, and recent experiments have shown both constant-speed and Fickian-style wave behavior. One way to model such waves mathematically is to track the concentration of the ion clusters in the polymer film. One such model has a standard Fickian form but with a highly nonlinear diffusion coefficient. This model is analyzed numerically, and the results are compared with previous asymptotic analysis. The results demonstrate that ECL waves corresponding to this model are indeed sharp and move in a Fickian way. Hence more complicated effects must be included in the model if constant-speed behavior is to be observed.

Sharp Fickian fronts in conjugated polymer films

Many electrochemical devices are formulated on conjugated polymer films. A model is presented for electrogenerated chemiluminescence in such systems. The resulting diffusion equation for ion transport has a standard Fickian form, but with a highly nonlinear diffusion coefficient. The asymptotic analysis of the equation involves both intermediate layers and logarithmic matching. The asymptotic r...

Electrogenerated chemiluminescence of pure polymer films and polymer blends.

We recently reported the discovery of soliton-like electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) waves from pure conjugated polymer films and gold-nanoparticles-doped polymer films. In addition to a more detailed study of these polymer systems by changing the film thickness and the distribution of local leaks, we also apply the ECL wave phenomenon to polymer blends of conjugated and nonconjugated po...

A Study of Excimer Emission in Solutions of Poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene) Using Electrogenerated Chemiluminescence

We report electrochemical studies and the observation of excimer emission from the conjugated polymer poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene) (PDOF) in benzene-MeCN solutions during electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL). The ECL emission spectrum resulting from the annihilation reaction between PDOF radical ions is characterized by two bands, one at 438 nm and a broad band centered at 610 nm. The ECL emis...

Electrogenerated chemiluminescence of single conjugated polymer nanoparticles.

We demonstrate a novel and powerful method to study electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) of single nanoparticles (NPs) (r = 25 +/- 15 nm) of a conjugated polymer, F8BT, on an ITO electrode in the presence of a co-reactant, such as tri-n-propylamine (TPrAH) in acetonitrile solution. The results reveal that the maximum formation rate of ECL of individual NPs is achieved after a long "build-up...

Non-Fickian Diffusion in Thin Polymer Films

Diffusion of penetrants through polymers often does not follow the standard Fickian model. Such anomalous behavior can cause difficulty when designing polymer networks for specific uses. One type of non-Fickian behavior that results is so-called case I1 diffusion, where Fickian-like fronts initially move like fi with a transition to a non-Fickian concentration profile and front speed for modera...
